The Meeting

A Police officer. Detective (Me), Mayor, and a high rank Military personnel trapped in a garage during a private meeting.  5.89 Richter scale earthquake plummets the ground, shaking and rumbling, sounds of whining twisting metal, crashing, spewing geysers, rocks tumbling, then rivers gushing, all without warning, not a siren or flashing red, blue, or amber light. This lasts for 7 extremely horrible minutes without end.

Our town is rocked. As trained men and women we easily break free from the destroyed garage. Our delight is met with floods, carnage, released gases, mess beyond immediate repair. Not a single flame, unknowing, unwittingly, hip high fast rushing water gallops, herds throughout the streets. Quickly filling banks and street corners, our paved roads are ravaged. The four of us are trained to avert danger, enforce rules, and save people no matter what creed, race, or company. The four brightest brains in our mind are helpless as our efforts at this moment are in disarray. Bound by a quest on, yes, a question, how much of the world has this happened to? Phones and radios are not working, people, and animals trapped, fields destroyed. What of our families, the eldest and youngest most precious. Gaseous waters moving fiercely, not rising but not a flame in the world, no brimstone, no coal, not a thing dry and warm.

I am fortunate this dream lasts only moments before I am frozen.
